NATO Secretary-General Urges Immediate Air Defence Assistance for Ukraine

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has once again called on Ukraine’s allies to expedite the delivery of military assistance, particularly air defence systems and ammunition, which it urgently requires.

Stoltenberg made these remarks during a meeting with Finnish President Alexander Stubb at the Alliance’s headquarters in Brussels on April 10th.

Highlighting the complexity of the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine, Stoltenberg emphasised that delays in military aid, especially in supplying air defence systems and ammunition, would enable Russian missiles to target more objectives and exert pressure along the front line.

“Ukraine simply cannot wait. It needs air defence, ammunition, and assistance. Immediately,” he stressed.

The Secretary-General reminded that the Alliance is working to ensure reliable and predictable support to Kyiv both now and in the long term, “so that Ukraine relies less on voluntary contributions and more on NATO commitments.”

“Moscow must understand that it cannot wait for them, and therefore, a package for Ukraine with predictable and reliable support is what we are currently working on in NATO,” Stoltenberg added.

Stoltenberg’s call comes amid ongoing tensions in Eastern Europe and continued Russian aggression in Ukraine.

The urgency of providing Ukraine with essential military assistance is underscored by the need to bolster its defense capabilities against potential threats.

NATO’s commitment to supporting Ukraine remains steadfast, with efforts underway to enhance its resilience and deter further aggression. As geopolitical dynamics evolve, ensuring the security and stability of Ukraine remains a priority for the Alliance.

The NATO Secretary-General’s plea for immediate assistance underscores the gravity of the situation and the imperative of swift action to address Ukraine’s pressing security needs.

In the face of escalating tensions, timely and robust support from NATO allies is crucial to safeguarding Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
